Crazy For Cord

Fashion plays a big role in my life as well as many others, and lately, cord clothing has been my obsession. I'm sure you would have seen items similar to the ones above with this style of fabric in many clothing outlets. In the 70s, corduroy clothing was all the rage involving a textile composed of twisted fibres to form the cloths distinct pattern. Fashion designers have now adapted this technique and modernised it into the latest clothing, which has for sure taken off. The reason why I love corduroy so much, and I believe others do also, is the fact it is old-style and the fabric in general is just really lovely. The following three items are my top picks in my collection of cord clothing, enjoy!

Maroon Cord Overall Dress

As I delved through the endless racks in Cotton On, this item instantly caught my eye and my heart was already one-hundred percent set on purchasing it. As I previously mentioned, yes indeed this item is from Cotton On, and priced at $30 I thought it was a pretty good buy! This item is perfect for an all-year rounder, during winter I have been pairing it with tights and a wooly jacket and I am sure during the summer will be wearing it a lot also. Because cord is a thick fabric its great for winter and adding extra warmth for maximum comfort. Ooo so snugly!

Green Oversized Jacket

This dark green oversized jacket is definitely my favourite and most used from the lot. I bought this from a vintage op-shop for $10 and is still my favourite bargain ever. It is so soft and warm on the inside and because it's made from cord it makes the jacket quite heavy duty. I've worn it in quite harsh weather conditions and it still manages to keep me warm. Usually I pair this with my black jeans, black turtleneck and black boots to make the jacket stand out and be the feature item of the outfit. Even though it is green, I still feel as though I can throw it over most outfits and it will usually match fine which is a positive. Unfortunately I have no clue where you could get the same jacket as this, but if you do find something similar then obviously I recommend it.

Tan Skirt

I was very pleased with this recent addition to my collection of cord, my tan coloured skirt. The corduroy detailing on this item is a lot thinner making it harder to see, but I promise it's there! This has been the perfect winter skirt, paired with tights. Because of it being made from cord, it already instantly makes the fabric a lot thicker and warmer. This item was also from Cotton On, god bless them, and I do believe it was $25 which is a fair buy.

I hope you all enjoyed this post as much as I enjoyed creating it! Feel free to leave a comment, and I will see next sunday.

Retro Home Decor

Hello everyone, gee it's been a while. Sorry I have not written in an extremely long time and it may have seemed as if I have dropped off the face of the planet. But I am indeed back and posting again every sunday from this point onwards, YAY.

Anyway, today I wanted to share with you all some items that live in our house that have been passed down from generations. In other words, here are some of our retro belongings that we use as home decor. Enjoy!

Old Records

My parents were big vinyl collecters back in the day, which have resulted in our family owning a cabinets worth of aged records. These are just some of my favourites from the lot including legendary titles such as, INXS, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, The Beatles, and Violent Femmes.

I wouldn't necessarily call these home decor items sitting in a cabinet going unnoticed by guests, so I do intend on using the covers for a DIY project. The covers are so unique and decorative so I figure if they are on display they will add a very retro and vintage vibe. I am also looking into purchasing a record player, seeing as our old one broke a while back. If you have any suggestions let me know!

Typewriter & Telephone

The final two items I will be talking about are our rotary dial telephone and our old-fashioned typewriter.

We own two of these 1970s style telephones and have them on displayed on our mantle pieces. Our house is very old and even though it has been done up we still like to keep an old-fashioned feel to it. I feel as though these rotary dial telephones defiantly contribute to a vintage effect in a modern context.

Last but certainly not least is our fluorescent orange typewriter. This is probably my favourite from the lot and you may have seen it featured in some of my posts. It currently lives on my desk and still works perfectly fine besides the fact it has nearly run out of ink haha. This was passed down from my Grandfather and has been well loved from day one. Much like the telephone, it contributes to the vintage effect of our house or more specifically my room.

I hope you enjoyed this post and if you do own any old-fashioned items similar to these then I encourage you to display them and let them flourish again. Thanks for reading!

Melbourne Fashion Week

Around a month ago, Zoe and I attended the opening night of Melbourne Fashion Week. It was an astounding experience that I'm sure neither of us will ever forget.

As we arrived at the venue half an hour before the show, we didn't know exactly what to expect although we were both nervous as well as excited. We felt slightly out of depth as everyone seemed much older and more professional, although as we gained our confidence, we submerged ourselves in the unique crowd and loved the whole atmosphere.

My Outfit

My outfit consisted of:
- White culottes
- Dark purple, lace, of the shoulder top - Minkpink
- Lipstik boots
- Mimco pouch
- Colorpop matte lipstick, shade guess

The show put together by Vogue and David Jones was abosoulutely incredible! I gained much inspiration from the unique styles walked on the catwalk also the groovy music meshed with the coloured lighting added to the breathtaking experience. This is a little pre-show selfie of Zoe and I, hehe.

As the marvellous evening came to an end, everyone filed out of the glamours room. By this point my  nervousness was replaced inspiration and a sense of motivation. I am grateful of this amazing experience and I recommend fashion runway shows highly if you're interested in this field.

Pita Pocket Toastie

Seeing as I love toasties, I decided to dedicate a post to them. So here's to all the beautiful toasties that with out a doubt cure our hungriness. Anyway enough chit chat, if you would like to know how to create the perfect pita pocket toastie then continue to read :)

Ingredients

- Pita pocket

- Fillings of choice

- Butter

one
First you'll need to turn on your sandwich maker (hot plate). While its heating up prepare your toastie.

two
To prepare your toastie, first spread butter on the outside of the pita pocket to help it crisp up when its in the sandwich maker. Then place your ingredients of choice into the pita pocket. I usually put cheese and avocado in mine (as seen in the photo above).

three
Once you've got your toastie how you like it, place it on the sandwich maker and let it sizzle away until its cooked to your liking. Then indulge your senses in this perfect little toastie.

Hello everyone, hope your all well. I am currently on holidays at the moment, but I will be sure to still post. Also recently I attended Melbourne Fashion Week (which was incredible), so I am in the process of writing a post about that so stay tuned!

Plants Are Friends

Hello everyone hope you've been well, I apologise for randomly disappearing for a week or two but I have been getting my mojo back together and have been finding inspiration. Also just thought i'd quickly mention is that I turned 16 recently so wooo. If you haven't guessed it yet, this post is a homeware inspired post which I will be doing more of because I love homeware, and apparently so do a lot of people. Enjoy!

As my first 'homeware' post I decided to write about plants as I seem to own quite a lot and scatter them around my room. Im not entirely sure why I titled this piece "Plants Are Friends", I guess I just liked the sound of it and it gave off an unusual heart warming feeling. When I gaze through the pages of homeware magazines, the rooms that stand out the most to me are the ones with a simple plant or bouquet of flowers. The small touch appeals to me, and hopefully others, because it gives off a calm and relaxed vibe while connecting the space to nature. So next time your wondering what to add (homeware wise) to a room, chuck a plant in there, guaranteed to jazz up any area! Also I mean that metaphorically, don't physically chuck a plant, they are very precious.

2015 - Beauty Favs

As it is finally 2016 (well one month in), I thought it was only fair to write about my beauty favourites during the year of 2015. Enjoy!

Covergirl Eye Shadow Palette

This highly pigmeanted quad by Covergirl is filled with four amazing bold shades which I found  perfect for a night out. As I was still slightly a beginner in make-up when I purchased this, the steps provided on the packet were very useful to give me some guidance on where on put each shade. The two main reasons why I love this product so much is, one; the colours, and two; the consistency. We all know my favourite shades in an eyeshadow are the more bronze and gold ones, therefore this was an obvious reason for myself and probably others. The consistancy and texture of this duo is wonderful, its creamy and applies softly over the eyelid. The texture made it easy for me to pick up a lot of product onto my brush and made the application easier. All in all this is a great product and because Covergirl is a drugstore brand you don't need a high budget to purchase this. If your looking to try new eyeshadows then I recommend give this one a go!

 Colour Pop 'Ultra Matte Lips'

I can not express how much I am obsessed with colour pop. In-fact I just recently purchased what some would call a large order from them so I'm thinking of doing a more detailed post on them once they arrive. Anyway, this product is incredible and probably one of my favourites from the lot. The one in the photo is named 'midi' which is a beautiful nude shade with a subtle beige undertone. My favourite lip is a matte one and this product sure lives up to its name 'ultra matte'. Once applied these liquid lipsticks aren't going anywhere, they hold extremely well as I have found after wearing it on multiple nights out. The thing that astounds me most with this product is the price only being $6 (usd). I think for the amazing quality of this product 6 dollars is an incredible bargain. Click 'here' to go to there website and have a browse at there amazing shades and other products made by them!

'Wake Me Up' Concealer

This concealer by Rimmel does in fact work wonders. Considering I have pretty bad bags under my eyes this product does do a great job at covering them up and making me look more awake, hence the name of the concealer. The texture is soft and the stick applicator makes it easy to apply under the eyes and over any blemishes. Once blended into the skin I find it stays on over a long period of time and doesn't clog up in your skin making you look caked. I love this product and it is my go to concealer each day. The price ended up only being 12 dollars which I think is incredible. You can purchase this concealer in a local chemist or super market.

Nars Foundation

I have already done a more detailed post about this foundation since I love it so much, so click 'here' to read that. This is just such a great quality foundation and I find that it gives a really nice coverage with just one layer but obviously it is build-able to create a more dramatic look. I understand this foundation is more on the pricey side but I understand that completely. If your willing to give it a go then I would definitely recommend you to!

Beauty Blender

This is currently one of many many obsessions at the moment. A good old beauty blender is currently my favourite way to apply make-up. I feel like it really pushes your make-up into your skin (if that makes sense) and gives off a great finishing look. Also the shape of it makes it easy to get to any part of your face. My one is a 3 dollar knock off from the real thing but I find still works exactly the same!

Into The New Year

The good year of 2015 is over and now we have moved on into 2016. Last year was a great year filled with new experiences and most importantly starting this blog. So far on my journey on blogging I have loved every minute of it and plan for it to continue into this year and many years ahead. To start the new year fresh, I decided to change my blog template to one that I adore (let me know your thoughts on it). This change has made me look forward to get back into blogging again! Im aware I took a small break from blogging over the holidays and that was simply because I needed one. During the year I was so busy with school and other activities that when the holidays rolled around I just needed a break to spend time with family and friends (I hadn't had a lot of time to write posts). Anyway I'm back and keen to get back into the swing of things. Also just to mention, for christmas I was fortunate enough to receive a camera, this means better quality photos and to expand on my love for photography. Hope everyone had a lovely christmas and is enjoying the new year!
